Hair Restoration
FUELED BY YOU
Does male or female pattern baldness, alopecia, or thinning hair affect your self-esteem and everyday mood? You’re not alone. Approximately 320 million Americans suffer from hair loss, and 20% of them are under the age of 30. The good news is there is a safe and reliable way to naturally enhance your hair growth. If your thinning hair is causing low self-esteem, emotional distress, depression, or anxiety, Orthopedic Associates of Dutchess County can help manage your hair loss with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment for hair restoration and return you to a fuller life.
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelets account for about 1% of your whole blood. By extracting the platelets and a little plasma, we are able to create PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma. PRP is a nutrient-dense fluid that stimulates cellular regeneration within microenvironments like the hair follicles, skin, and also the joints. Platelets are robust cells that contain numerous growth factors, each of which is involved in certain cellular processes.

A REGENERATIVE MEDICINE APPROACH TO A THINNING HAIRLINE

Step 1
Blood is drawn, typically from your arm, and put into a centrifuge (a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities).

Step 2
Using an advanced centrifugation system, Whole blood is split into its various parts based on the density of the cells. The cells are then carefully extracted from the sample, leaving a concentrated and very pure mixture of Platelets and large Plasma Proteins.

Step 3
The platelet-rich plasma is drawn up into a syringe and then carefully injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth.
What Risks Are Associated With Using PRP For Hair Restoration?
PRP is from your own blood, so there is minimal risk with this treatment. Side effects or complications with PRP are very rare. Side effects could include minor discomfort at injection sites, itching, swelling, and dry scalp.
How Long Will It Take To See Results?
Consistency is crucial to obtain satisfactory results from PRP hair restoration. Treatments are typically scheduled monthly for a few months. Most patients experience some benefit in a little as 3 to 4 weeks, but it is usually at months 1 to 3 that the most significant gains are achieved. After the initial series of treatments, injections are repeated every three to six months depending on individual response and results.
The initial effect you may notice after treatment is that you’ll shed fewer hairs. Over time, you can expect to see an increase in hair thickness.
