Get to know Dr. Amara Nasir, an interventional pain physician at Orthopedic Associates of Dutchess County. 

How did you get interested in pain medicine and physiatry?

Throughout my medical career, I’ve observed the transformative impact of interventional procedures, ranging from epidural injections to radiofrequency ablation, in significantly improving the quality of life for patients. These encounters have solidified my belief in the power of interventional pain medicine to make a tangible difference. 

What is your practice philosophy?

As a physician, my professional life is dedicated to the well-being and health of my patients. I am passionate about improving the quality of life of my patients through comprehensive and patient-centered care. I enjoy building strong professional relationships with patients, taking the time to understand their unique challenges and tailoring treatment plans to meet individual needs.

What are some of the conditions you treat, and how do you treat them?

I treat a variety of chronic musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain disorders such as chronic back pain, neck pain, sacroiliac, peripheral joint pain, and nerve-related pain. I tailor individualized treatment plans that prioritize long-term relief and improved functionality. I perform a variety of minimally invasive procedures aimed at delivering targeted and effective pain relief utilizing the latest advancements in interventional pain management. These procedures include image-guided epidural injections, nerve blocks, joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, and peripheral nerve stimulation, among others. 

What trends are you seeing in physiatry and/or pain management? What are you currently excited about?

More recently, rapid advancements in medical technology have expanded treatment options afforded to patients with chronic pain conditions. I am excited about the opportunity to offer cutting-edge technologies and innovative therapies to manage my patients’ pain.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I love making a difference in the lives of my patients. By helping my patients overcome pain and regain physical function, I see how I can help in achieving a significant impact on their quality of life. 

What are your personal interests? 

I like spending time with my family, going on walks, and enjoying the little things in life.
